Lionel Messi has now intervened in the ongoing transfer saga involving Neymar by phoning the Paris Saint-Germain superstar.
The Barcelona captain has called Neymar to urge him to reject Real Madrid. He’s also attempted to convince him to return to Catalunya per Marca.
Messi doesn’t want his good friend lining up opposite to him and phoned the PSG wantaway forward to dissuade him against striking a deal with Real Madrid.
The Spanish outlet also claim the relationship between Messi and Neymar is “excellent” and the 32-year-old “feels a special affinity with his former teammate”.
Despite not playing in PSG’s opening league game of the season, the Brazilian was subject of horrific abuse.
PSG Ultras unfurled banners and chanted derogatory chants about the Brazilian international.
“Neymar f*** off,” one banner read while supporters were chanting “son of a b***h” amid intense speculation regarding his future.
Thomas Tuchel left Neymar out of his squad and following his side’s victory, he said he can understand the anger directed at him.
“It’s tricky. I don’t know what to say. I saw it on my colleagues’ smartphones because I did not hear them (the chants) during the match,” the German said after PSG’s 3-0 victory over Nimes.
“Can I understand it? Yes and no. He’s still our player, my player, and I protect all my players. He’s in my dressing room. I can understand that not everyone has liked what he has said and done.”
Barcelona and Real Madrid have courted Neymar all summer with the player desperate for a move away from Paris.
