David Beckham’s soon to be MLS side Inter Miami have been given permission to start building work on their new 18,000 seater stadium.

The MLS will be getting a new team next season when David Beckham’s Inter Miami enter the league, 12 years after Beckham’s move to LA Galaxy gave him the chance to one day own a franchise.

Now the Florida state side have been handed a boost with their £50 million Lockhart Stadium being given the go ahead to be built by the Fort Lauderdale commission.

On Instagram the club posted a picture of a mock-up of the stadium with the caption confirming the news, saying, “City of Fort Lauderdale has approved the agreement to build the IMCF Training Facility and Stadium at old Lockhart Site. Proud to collaborate with the @cityoffortlauderdale to create an amazing destination for our fans and community to enjoy. 2020, here we come!”

The proposal for the 18,000 seater was only put forward six months ago but the commission unanimously voted in favour of it on Tuesday.

Beck’s club will start in the MLS in 2020 and the ground is set to be ready in time for them to begin the stadium at the site.

The club still need to talk to the Federal Aviation Administration about the construction of the new stadium with Fort Lauderdale Executive Airport near the site, where demolition of the original ground has already started.

Fort Lauderdale will only be the club’s home for their first two seasons before becoming their training facility, after that they will move into the £750 million Miami Freedom Park for the 2022 season.

Who do you think will play for Beckham’s Inter Miami team when they join MLS next year?
